Evolution

Goalkeeping has evolved just as football has. Today goalkeepers are not only expected to safeguard the goal and to form walls, they are also expected to use their feet. Infact, one of the criterias for considering how good a modern goalkeeper is, is how effective he is with his feet.

Some goalkeepers have mastered this art while others have flattered. From Ederson Moraes to Allison Becker and Kepa Arrizabalaga, I bring you the best among the rest.

To start with, Ederson moraes of Brazil and man city. I know you will bear it with me that it no doubt Ederson is sitted comfortably on top of this list. If goalkeepers playing with their feet is an art, he would be the Leonardo Da Vinci of it. Yes, from his short passes to the long ones, his passing range is just incredible. His calmness on the ball under pressure needs to be studied at the academies. He also has assists to prove how good he is at doing this. Yes he creates goals out of nothing to help the team. Pep Guardiola once said he could deploy him at the base of his midfield three and he would deliver. When man city players were recklessly missing penalties, Guardiola threatened to make Ederson the designated penalty taker. Yes this is how good he is. He might not be the best in reflexes but he Is miles the best in this aspect.

Secondly, Allison Becker of Brazil and Liverpool. Liverpool is struggling to get points this season but this should not make us forget how good Allison is with his feet. Short passes, long passes, dribbles, ability to fain shorts and the willingness to drive out of his box, he has mastered them all. He even has a goal to show. His is slightly behind his compatriot, who is number one on this list though he is the overall best with his mastery over reflexes making the difference. He is very integral to the jurgen pressing football Liverpool plays. He picks the run of attacking players very well and makes it look too easy. No doubt he is second only to the best.

Last but not least, Kepa Arrizabalaga of Spain and Chelsea. Kepa has been restored back to the starting eleven, and one of the reasons behind making this decision is, his ability to play with his feet. Graham Potter builds his teams to play a swift attacking game, hence his system requires a goalkeeper who can start attacks and also pick the runs of attacking players high up the pitch with accurate through balls. Kepa has mastered doing all these, hence he is being rewarded week in week out with game time. I must say, he deserves to be on this list.

To conclude, I will like to say these three goalkeepers set the standard that others follow. Their quality makes them special.
