Premier league 2022/23: Arsenal's change in Fortune

Team form changes with time and this is the case with Arsenal. Arsenal of this season is not the same as the Arsenal of the previous seasons. Their fortunes have turned around and they appear to be flying. They currently sit top of the premier league table with 28 points after 11 games; two points ahead of Mancity, who are second on the league log. They have only lost once and drawn once so far. In this article I will give you some of the reasons behind their upturn in form.

To start with, their squad depth. Arsenal struggled a lot last season because they didn't have a big squad. This made them to keep using the same set of players for every game, and when there is an injury they struggle to produce a competitive team. But this summer, they have invested heavily in their squad, so now they have two players for almost every position. This is helping them cope with injuries. The left back position had ruined their previous season so, bringing in oleksandr Zinchenko to compete with the injury prone Kieran Tierney, proves to be a good idea. Tierney is still out injured but they are firing on all cylinders as they have a quality backup. They have also provided a cover for their midfield should star midfielders Partey and Xhaka not be available. This has helped them remained competive during the former's absence; Something they could not do last season.

To continue, the teams' general descipline. Arsenal players' descipline appears to have seen an improvement this season. Last season their indesciplne cost the team So many points. From earning needless sent offs to giving cheap penalties away, they cost the team a place in this season's champions league. Last season, in a premier league match against Man City Granit Xhaka, the mayor in indesciplne, earned a red card when they where 2 - 0 down. They went on to loose the game 5 - 0. There are other matches where they seem to be comfortably winning only to end up loosing because of the players' indiscipline. But this season arsenal are yet to earned a red card and they rarely give away cheap penalties. This has contribute immensely to their good performance this season.

Again, releasing experience players. Arteta struggled to work with the experienced faces in his squad something every young manger would go through. These players tend to challenge his ideas hence, they where released this summer. Notable one are; Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Hector Bellerin. Now he has recruited young and hungry players that he can manage, and it's working for him. These young players run their socks off for him, they play dirty just to impress him. They don't challenge his ideas or complain.

Last but not least, growth. Arteta appears to have grown from an inexperienced coach to a fairly experienced coach. He rarely makes the mistakes he used to make, like wrong team setups and wrong substitutions. He is finally showing the Guardiola in him; the virtue that made Arsenal snapped him roughly three seasons ago. He is finally showing all that he learnt from his master, Pep Guardiola. Should he continue to implement this virtue, he will only continue to excel.

To conclude, I will like to say, I tip them as favourites for the tittle but we all know about the prowess of Guardiola's Citizens and the league unpredictability. But I'm very sure they would end the no champions league football drought by making the top four come the end of this season.
