Premier league 2022/23: Newcastle Utd's change in fortune

Newcastle United appears to be flourishing after some years of struggling. Their revival is down to some reasons. In this article I will walk you through some of this reasons.

To commence, a financially bouyant ownership. Football has evolved into an industry that is run by money. Teams who have financially stable owners do well and this is the case with Newcastle. An upturn in their fortunes have coincided with the arrival of their mega rich new owners and this is not an accident. We can mention how PSG, Chelsea, and Mancity have transformed from lesser known teams to European powerhouses under the watch of billionaire owners. The same transformation that these three teams have undergone, is what Newcastle are also undergoing. The new owners; a consortium of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and others, have come in and invested heavily in transforming the team's training facilities. The purpose for investing in this facilities, is, to bridge the gap between them and the other teams In the division. They are also spending on new players. This good moves from the board have positively contributed to turning the Magpies fortunes' around.

To continue, the Appointment of a coach who nurtures talents. They preferred a coach who developes talents to a coach who buys ready-made and expensive players. We all know what Eddie Howe did at Bournemouth. He took them all the way from the bottom of the English football pyramid to the top: the Premier league. And they went on to spend Four fruitful season in the league with unknown names, before their eventual relegation to the championship. This might be one of the virtues that made the Magpies repose the confidence in him and he is paying them back. He took them from the Claws of relegation straight to 11th last season. And this season, his team appears to have picked up from where they left it last season. They currently occupy the final champions league spot and are above big guns like Chelsea, Man Utd, and Liverpool just to mention a few. Not only is his team above these big guns, they also pip them In the goals scored and conceded ratio. He is doing all this with lesser known players notably joelinton, Joe Willock, Fabian Schar, Sean Longstaff and Miguel almiron. He has remarkably turned the latter from a bench warmer to a goal pocher, something all the Newcastle coaches for the past three years could not do. In my humble opinion, he is arguably the best English Manager, slightly above Graham Potter. We can all say this decision by the board to appoint him is one of the reasons behind their upturn in form.

Last but not least, smart recruitment. They have set up a good board who has a real strategy. They are focused on buying quality players whose market values are very low. We can mention right back Kieran Trippier who was bought for under $15m, Bruno Guimaraes for under $50m and some others. The latter considering his quality even drew interest from the Los Blancos in the summer. These players were bought for a little money but we can all see the impact they make week in week out on the field of play. This is not easy to achieve, considering Barcelona spent a fortune on new players in the summer but are struggling to produce good results. We have to credit the board as, their strategy has contributed immensely to turning the magpies' fortunes around.

To conclude, I will like to say Newcastle fans look set to see a repeat of their clubs' golden era which was spearheaded by the top scorer in English football, Alan Shearer. They have a young strikers in Alexander Issak who they could trust to go within the reach of Shearer's impressive 260 premier league goals. Really interesting times for the Magpies.
