World Cup 2022: Croatia shocked Brazil and progressed to the the semi final via penalties

 The first quarter final match of the ongoing 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar has just ended.

It was between Brazil and Croatia. The scores where locked at 0-0 after 90' minutes. Croatia then, won the tie on penalties after a winner could not be found in extra time.

This match was played at the Education City Stadium In Al Rayan Qatar. And it started at exactly 15:00 GMT.

Both teams rolled out a strong lineups for this very crucial tie. Below is the lineups for both teams;

Analysis

Brazil dominated the game right from kickoff but could not break down a stubborn Croatia defense. Livakovic the Croatian's goalkeeper, Gvardiol, and juranovic marshalled the defense, and Brazil with all the big names they possess could not find a way to score.

The game ended 0-0 at the end of 90' minutes hence the need to play extra time inorder to find a winner. The selecao scored the first goal of the extra time just on the stroke of halftime courtesy of their ' Poster Boy' Neymar.

However, with four minutes remaining on the clock for the game to end, Croatia leveled the score. It was a brilliant goal scored by Pektovic, the Dinamo Zagreb marksman.

This result meant the game went to penalties. Brazilian missed two of their spot kicks. The culprits are Rodrygo and Marquinhos.

Croatia took advantage of Brazil's misses and won the tie to become the first team to progress to the semi final of the ongoing fifa world cup. Mislav Orsic of Dinamo Zagreb scored the winning penalty.

Brazilians dominated possession early into the game but lost it as the game progressed. Croatia had a about 51% to Brazil's 49. 

Brazil prevail in the other departments. They had 21 shots on goal with 11 on target to Croatia's 11 with only one target. Croatian's goalkeeper remarkably had nine saves throughout the game.

Brazil had 7 corner kicks and Croatia had only 3. There were five yellow cards in the game, and they were shared 3 and two respectively. Brazil had the the three.

This result means Croatia have progressed to the semi final of the ongoing world cup and will face the winner between Argentina and Netherlands.
