World Cup 2022: Croatia and Argentina progress to the semi finals

 Day 1 of the quater final of the ongoing 2022 Fifa world cup in Qatar has just ended.

Today featured two matches; the first one was between Brazil and Croatia. The other was between Argentina and Netherlands.

Brazil vs Netherlands

This match was played at the Education city Stadium at Al Rayan in Qatar. It kicked off at exactly 15:00 GMT.

Before this game Brazil were touted as favourites but that didn't manifest. They rather became the villains. They dominated every department of the game but could not win.

They were eliminated by Croatia on penalties after both teams could not find the winner in 120' minutes.

The game ended 0-0 at the end of 90' minutes and in extra time it ended one goal at pease.

Two Brazilian players missed their penalties to hand Croatian player, Mislav Orsic the chance to win it for his country. They are Rodrygo and Marquinhos.

Orsic didn't disappoint as he powered the ball pass Allison the Brazilian goalkeeper, to guide Croatia to the semi finals.

Argentina vs Netherlands

This match was played at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, Qatar. It kicked off at exactly 19:00 GMT.

Before this game many expected Argentina to win and it came to pass. However it was not a straightforward win for them, as thay had to win it on penalties.

The Argentines led 2-0 with with 8' remaining on the clock but at the end of 90 minutes the scores were locked at 2-2.

They had to progress to extra time to find the winner, but either team could not find the winner. Hence they moved to penalties.

Netherlands missed two of their penalties to give Lautaro Martinez the chance to win it for Argentina. He didn't disappoint as he powered the ball into the back of the net, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way in the process.

The Argentina players jump in elation, and it was all misery for players of  Netherlands. They had given their all, only to lose on penalties.

This result means Argentina have progressed to the semi final and will face Croatia the giant killers.
