World Cup 2022 RO16: Netherlands beat the USA to qualify for the Quarter final of the ongoing tournament

 The first match of the round of 16 of the 2022 Fifa world cup in Qatar, has just ended. 

The match was between Netherlands and the USA, and it ended 3-1 in favour of the Netherlands. It was played at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha- Qatar.

The two coaches of these two teams rolled out a strong lineups for this very crucial game.

Post Match Analysis 

Both teams started this very crucial match with caution, but it was not long before Netherlands' superiority on paper started to show on the pitch.

Exactly on the 10' minute, Netherlands scored the first goal of the match, courtesy of Barcelona forward, Memphis Depay.

The states tried to draw level but could not. Just on the stroke of halftime, the Netherlands scored their second goal of the match, courtesy of defender Daley Blind, to go into halftime with two goals up.

After the break, the USA threw everything at the Netherlands in abid to draw level but all to no avail. But on the 79' minute, star man, Christian Pulisic teed up substitute Haji Wright to reduce the two goal deficit to one. With the scores locked at 2-1, the states tried to tie the game and possibly take it to extra time but that didn't happen. The Netherlands rather restored their two goal lead with their third goal of the game, courtesy of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, who had assisted the teams first two goals.

The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Netherlands. The final result means the Netherlands have qualified for the quarter finals of the ongoing world cup in Qatar. They are the first team to do so. They await the results of the other matches to see who they will face.

Stats 

The USA surprising dominated the stats. They had about 58 ball possession to Netherlands 42. They had 18 shots on goal with 8 on target. The Netherlands had 11 shots on goal with only only six on target.

The USA had 5 corner kicks and The Netherlands had Only four. There  were only two yellow cards in the game and they all went to the winning team, Netherlands.

The USA tried but they could not progress to the next round. We can only wish them a better luck next time.
